Lübeck is without question one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. The medieval city center, picturesquely situated on an island in the river Trave, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The narrow streets, the seven church towers, the old merchants' houses and the Hanseatic atmosphere make the old town a fascinating place.
